BLUE WATER RALLY - PACIFIC CROSSING DAY 2

3.09S 92.46W Saturday 8th March and we’ve actually
found some wind! And sailed for six hours today! Plus we have some current
running with us so 7.5 knots with no effort. Chatting on the 10.00am net and
again at 6 confirmed that we five remaining boats all managed to get away
yesterday and are pretty close to one another which is nice – it means we
can have a chat on the VHF if we want to. Both fridges had packed up by the morning and we think the gas has
escaped from one which we cannot do anything about at sea but the other had a
corroded wire on the electrical panel which we were able to fix. So we have
moved all the really perishable food into the one working fridge and put bread,
vegetables and drinks into the one next door which will be cooled by the other,
although defunct in itself. Quite a feat to accomplish this task in a moving
boat! They are top loading fridges so you can imagine the carry
on……. We all enjoyed a quiet lazy day today, motoring along with some rain
and sunny periods. It isn’t that hot though and you need a fleece at
night. Getting back into our routine, breakfast at 9.00 when we are all awake,
we all eat something different – Bennett likes fruit compote, we prefer a
bacon sandwich! - Rally radio net at 10.00am, then repairs and maintenance:
topping up the water tank, washing clothes, cleaning the heads, making beds
etc. whilst taking it in turns to catch up on sleep - canapés at 3.00 –
today we had sesame biscuits with local Galapagos mozzarella cheese, home made
pesto (fresh basil from the market, pine nuts, parmesan cheese, garlic, extra
virgin oil, sea salt and black pepper in the whizzer) with sliced buffalo
tomatoes and pink onion slithers – reading (Investment Biker On the Road
by Jim Rogers) – Radio net at 1800 for another chat with other boats
– dinner at 1900 (Chicken, onion and sweet corn with sesame oil on
Chinese rice noodles) – a film on the lap top – ‘send and
receive’ on the iridium phone mailasail site to see if we have any emails
and here I am back on watch………not a bad life is it?! |
