BLUE WATER RALLY - DAY 2 AND 3 ACROSS THE POND

2517N 016.13W Well we have salted our small squid and frozen him and
washed him down and he’s on the end of the line but STILL no fish!!!
Michael is beside himself!! Not a lot to report, lovely to be upright and tickling along with a
little breeze! We pop the engine on when it dies completely and frankly
it is very civilised and comfortable – not sure the rest of the Rally
would agree with me – they’re on the VHF and SSB constantly
all day obsessed with how fast they are going over the sea, over the ground,
changing course, discussing sail sets and generally sound thoroughly frustrated
– cant understand it myself!! At one point today we had both genoas
up, and the stay sail and the main….. I’m sure that’s not
cricket either………. We probably are using more juice than we
had thought we would but worst case scenario would be to fill up in the The days just pass by easily – Michael glued to his Spanish Tapes
and in charge of the wind vane (happy wanderer), Oscar strumming on his guitar,
Bennett and Paul fixing leaks and generally keeping on top of small problems
which occur. Lovely temperate climate, sunny with a breeze – I have been
trying to make the We all make our own breakfast, Muesli with dried fruit and bananas for
Bennett and Michael with a secret stash of fresh milk, last night’s left
over dinner for Oscar and invariably a bacon sandwich for Paul and me.
Salad or a sandwich for lunch and chicken curry last night and bangers and mash
tonight – there is so much food everywhere it is hard to find what you
want in the right order, or even at all! (We are all dreaming of that nice fat
fresh fish!!) Other boats have schools of dolphins and pods of whales all
around them but not us yet……… Hakuna Matata have lost their email facility so we are in touch with
their family for them, no news from Neva who lost their SSB, Zippy Do Da have
left and are catching up fast! Still a few boats left in Lanzarote and
some are now 400 miles in front of us so quite a spread. The moon is setting at around 1.00 am which seems really strange
– I had never really thought about moon rise and set before - the nights
are very dark without her! |
