just another manic monday...

Yacht Ariel
Henry Adams
Mon 28 Jul 2008 09:57
...or not.

no wind.

position: 45:13.7N, 16:49.5W

601 miles from the start, 625 miles to go, so should pass half way today! once i put the computer away and stop us motoring in circles, that is.

Robin Knox-Johnston afficionados will be glad to hear that my fish broth-stew-curry was finally finished, having done me proud for four days. That means i could get the fishing line out agin, but i think i'll leave it a bit and see if i can work through some of the mounds of preserved food i've been slowly stockpiling since the caribbean.

have had quite a bit of rain in the last 24hrs, so been down below working my way steadily through the books on board - which are now nearly all read, so time to top up the audiobooks on my mp3 player. hardly any shipping out here - getting maybe one radar alarm every other day - which means i'm getting lots of lovely 2 and 3 hour sleeps all through the night. in fact, i'm sleeping more out here than i do on land!

More shearwaters around recently, and still the occasional visit from dolphins - i think i got some good photos this morning - but no sign of my mystery companion yacht for some time. thought i could see his navigation lights at dusk last night, but either imagined it or mistook a low star. was strangely nervy all day yesterday about shipping, but never anything in sight.

the mast is leaking onto my bedding, despite it currently having the full henry adams (TM) mark 7 sealing treatment. i'll squirt some more gunge on it.

fresh food is doing well - finished the nectarines (which were getting bashed and soggy), but got an apple a day left, lots of green-going-red tomatoes, and a courgette. whilst we're on the topic of food i might just mention that i had fried eggs on toast and coffee for breakfast! how's about that, huh? (for those of you unfamiliar with Ariel, imagine a spacious, well lit, granite and brushed aluminium kitchenette) (for those of you familiar with Ariel, don't give the game away).

surprisingly, my laptop charger is working - hence, in large part, the length of this blog - so i just need the satphone to cooperate and i'll be able to have a proper 5 day weather check!

expected in teignmouth sunday afternoon, just in time for tea. see you there.
