51 12.21 N 56 46.2 W Fantastic day. We motor sailed up the coast with calm seas/ Two large pods of Fin whales passed us one as close as 100 yds away. Their blows were clear in the cold air and hung there long after the whales sounded. Then the first ice berg was spotted. We were expecting them as the ice reports indicated a few were around. The water temperature yesterday was also a give away. Very exciting for me the newbie who hasn't seen one before. The good news is they are easy to spot in the prevailing seas and show up on radar as well. We are now in Barbe Harbour for the night. The plan is to day sail over to Fox harbour tomorrow on the other side of the Straits of Belle Isle in Labrador. This is going on the SSB radio so photos will have to wait, sorry.
