We are now berthed at Gairlochy, beneath the shadow of Ben Nevis, and only a few miles from Neptune's Staircase, Fort William and the end of the Caledonian Canal. The last few days have been a magical interlude in our cruise this year. We have been blessed with good weather, the scenery has been magnificent, and this early in the season the waterways have been quiet and peaceful. We have traversed the four dimensional splendour of Loch Ness, passed along canal sections lined with trees higher than PROGRESS' mast, climbed staircases of locks to reach a plateau 106ft above sea level, and wound our way through the intricacies of the shallow higher lochs. And we saw Nessie! Rather than stretch my vocabulary of superlatives to the point of repetition, I have just included below a few photographs of some of the highlights.
