After leaving Vannes, we went out into the Morbihan and anchored off Le
Bourg, to the south of the Ile d'Arz. The island was extremely quiet and
peaceful, as we had managed to visit a few days before the start of the
summer season, which runs from 7th July to 24th August. In the fine early
summer weather that we had for our visit, there was total tranquility. An
absolute haven for walkers or artists or birdwatchers.

We had intended to go next to Belle Ile, a long time favourite of ours. But
the forecasters were issueing dire warnings about an unseasonally deep low
weather system that was tracking south of Ireland, so we decided that, if
the weather was going to be grotty, we would be better off alongside in Port
Haliguen than in the outer harbour at Le Palais. We whooped across to
Quiberon and, with the help of some already there, squeezed ourselves into a
berth on the inside of the visitors pontoon. Out with the bikes whilst the
winds did blow! And blow! three days later, and we and a little flottila of
boats were still all awaiting a respite in the weather so we could move on.

Eventually it came, so we shot off in the direction of Ile de Groix. We were
having such a good sail that we bypassed Groix and came straight on to
Concarneau, which does not appear to have changed since we first came here
25 years ago!
