Wet Ones

Panatlantic

Dear All,
Thank you all for your messages of support over the past couple of days since James and i admitted that this is actually quite hard; and for your advice and suggestions: Henceforth i will make sure that when using the wet ones i wipe my face before my bottom and crotch, seems obvious now that i think about it, the thought simply never crossed my mind!

Firstly i'd like to apologise to all of you who have been emailing us on panatlantic.org, the problem is now fixed and emails are arriving. Those that have already been sent will have landed in my inbox at work, which is superb news as reading though them will give me something to do for the first couple of weeks that i'm back in the office!

Not all of you will be aware that we don't actually receive any of the messages that get sent to the race website either, apparently our 15 grand race entry fee didn't cover forwarding 5 emails a day. These are being saved for me though, so in time (first 2 weeks at work) i'll read all of those too. James and i endeavour to reply to everyone that emails us, so my apologies if you have been feeling neglected!

Well, having now been at sea for 36 days we find ourselves for the first time under a blanket of cloud! As a result we can't charge our batteries properly so i will have to keep this very short and not ramble at all! Shock horror! It was a toss up between running the watermaker tonight or telling the blogosphere about my the goat index. I argued long and hard with James about it and eventually had to concede that the goat index can wait and that we could probably do with the water. We run it once a day now to minimise the weight of water that we're carrying, every kilo more that we carry on board is an extra litre of water that we have to shift to move the boat, hence the first things we threw overboard were the heaviest: liferaft and emergency drinking water. The race organisers will be delighted to hear that we are still carrying our 6kg metal anchor though, along with its 10m of chain and 30m of rope, which were all mandatory - and you get disqualified from the race if it's not on the boat at the finish!

Right, i'm sorry this is quite so short, we may not be able to write at all tomorrow, that all depends on the weather (doesn't everything out here?!).

I hope all is well back in Blighty,

Until the next time the sun shines!
Niall
