Pelagic Australis is currently moored in Punta Arenas in Chile.  The weather is overcast with occasional drizzle but the tempo on the boat is so upbeat.  The yacht Skipper Stewart, and his crew Lawrence, and Jess have made me feel really at home here.  Pelagic is just an awesome boat, and I am looking forward to seeing her under sail.  I would best describe the boat as “industrial”, with everything designed and constructed to be simple, effective and so so strong. I have learned so much already.

The boat is currently on a mooring buoy away from the quay, which means that one of the crew needs to be on board at all times.  The weather here is decidedly unpredictable, with calm to F12 not uncommon, with the local “williwaws” howling through the rigging, but so far it has just been calm.

We are planning to be here until May 12 before heading off down the Magellan Strait towards the Beagle Channel.

Will keep you all posted as things go on,
