Progressively heading North up to Bermuda, and Pinball has just today emerged out of a large dollop of nil wind - 200 miles of it at least - the ‘dead air’ that exist at the centre of large High Pressure zones, and there are few bigger than the North Atlantic High. Now the reliable Easterly Trade winds of the Tropics are replaced by more Westerly winds - winds that can take you back across the Atlantic.  We hope.

The becalmed area we have just traversed, a wind desert, is quite remarkable;  not a breath disturbs the surface of the sea - like blue oil - with just the panting of long range swell lifting the boat rhythmically.

Apart from a few misguided flying fish landing on board, no members of the animal kingdom have made their presence known.  Flying fish are feathers light and dry up quickly to nothing.

Next stop Bermuda, to stock up with fresh food, fuel and water.  Then on towards the  Azores..
