10am. At anchor just at the entrance to the well marked channel leading to the JOLLY HARBOUR Marina, boatyard and complex, having survived the turgid business of ‘clearing out’ from Customs yesterday. Whilst still capable of acquiring a signal for the phone, today’s job before setting off is to ensure comms are going to work - Satphone - and people know what I’m doing and where. If the system works, and this entry is the test, a blog entry should appear on the Mailasail website, together with a position for Pinball on a map. So let’s send this by Satphone and see… !
Next day; Overnight heading North was very difficult, with mulitiple heavy rainstorms wreaking havoc with the wind, including a complete reversal, but worst of all was the threat of lightening, at times surrounding the boat. Scary. But we were spared.. After that came a huge area of not enough wind, severe hundred miles of it, through which it was not practical to attempt to cross. Soaked through, decision was to divert to the nearest Caribbean island, St Martin, and sort out some of these problems. Currently at anchor in Simpsons Bay on the Dutch side of the island. The other end belongs to the French.
