A wonderful send off in Las Palmas set the scene
for the start of the race. As the latino band played us out of the harbour
entrance, the breeze stiffened as the starting sequence commenced.
A hectic startline, occupied primarily by spanish
tourist craft, gave way to the start of the race; Pi was bunched up with a few
other boats and we were able to see clearly the bowman of Global Yacht Racing's
EH01 (sister ship to Pi), waving as they choose a more southerly starting
heading.
Not two miles from the start line, we saw our first
dolphins and were treated to a 20 minute display by a school of harbour
dolphins.
Fun gave way to yacht racing and day gave way to
night and some hard sailing in 30+ knots of breeze, shifting in driections and 4
meter seas. But after a delicious Spagetti Bolognaise and not much sleep, the
crew of Pi Squared sailed into a sunnier - flatter - morning!
