We left...

...and we're back in St Georges.
At 1910 we decided to turn back to Bermuda. The
reason was that the freezer was not working properly. It did not get any cooling
water and as we investigated more, we found that the engine was not getting any
cooling water either. Since we did not have a spare onboard (we didn't know that
then though since we have some 8 impellers onboard but they were all for the
generator) and we didn't want to start off a 14 day sailing with no freezer or
fridge. The food is very important, specially since the weather was not all that
great, or at least not the wind. It was a tough desicion to turn around but know
we are back here in St Georges, where we dropped anchor at 0440 Wednesday
morning.
Today we managed to get hold of a new impeller with
the help of Mr. Steve Powell who helped us earlier with the fuel pump. As you
can see on the pictures, it was installed by Miia, since she was the only one
who could fit in the tight space on top of the engine. This Yanmar is not built
for changing the impeller too often. As you can see the old impeller is slightly
worn and it's impressive that the engine has been running at all the last couple
of weeks, but that's Yanmar for you!
We also managed to get the "sump pump" to work
again. It's the one sucking the water out of the shower. We are trying to find
more things that can possibly go wrong, but it feels like we got it all covered
now. After all we have fixed quite a few things and can't really think of any
thing else. We are going to have a thorough look at the auto pilot since it's
been dropping out a couple of times.
The most sad thing is that Miia is not able to come
with Morning Song to the Azores since she needs to report back to work. We had
really hoped to do this together, but life sometimes has a different plan for
you. Hopefully Captain Baines (Johans dad) will be able to join early
next week to help Johan sail across to the Azores.
Miia will stay here in Bermuda with me, untill it's
time to depart for Azores, hopefully with an easier wind.
