Waiting for weather

Tuesday 22nd January

Still in St Martin, and now waiting for a weather window for the next leg to St Kitts. The showers have slightly diminished, but a low just to the north and the reinforcing Atlantic high are squeezing the trade winds up to 25 – 30 knots, with 10 – 12’ waves for some extra fun. The forecast shows some moderation later in the week and at the moment, Friday is pencilled for the trip. The boat’s now looking quite smart after a bit of varnishing and polishing. All that remains is to iron the uniforms, polish the brass, fold the ends of the bog rolls to neat points and we’ll be ready for our first guests on Saturday.

Yesterday we dropped into Shrimpys – a little bar attached to a marina, but which is more like a home from home for cruisers. There’s free wifi, a boat flea market, a (very) happy hour, and tomorrow a ‘Pot luck’ evening. This starts as happy hour finishes; everybody takes a dish of grub to share around and the evening develops from there. It sounds like a great forum for a bit of boat whingeing and some tall stories.

Skipper busy planning the trip (NB no Indy available!)
