Where are the knots?
Position 40 12.7N 19 34.6W Saturday
6th June Irie’s
still tracking pretty well due east as the low to the north and behind us does
the same thing but rather faster. Last night’s sailing was excellent as the wind
veered to the north, filled in to force five and we bowled along at seven knots
or so. As the low closes it will get rather breezier and lumpier for a couple of
days, but by Monday afternoon we should be able to head north east again aiming
to weather Cape Finisterre and what’s cheerfully known locally as the ‘Costa del
Morte’, however much will depend on this low and then the forecasts beyond. We
have had an urgent communication from the International Guild of Knot Tiers
asking for info about the knot of the day – a great omission and details were as
follows. Wednesday Knot of the
day: Carrick Bend Nautical
saying: Baboon Watch Thursday
Kotd Scaffold knot
Nautical Saying: Pierhead jump (not Saturday night at
Clacton) Friday
Kotd: Throwing line hitch
Nautical saying: Lubber’s Hole (not a pub) |
