Tuesday 19th May

Great progress yesterday and....no wind today. We’re currently motoring north east, aiming to catch up with some breeze rom the south east, but it’s slow going. The engine is down on minimum revs to keep us nosing along just under 5 knots and at least that’s directly to the Azores. It also looks like we have enough fuel to motor the whole way, but it’ll take a while. Still the halfway point is past – at noon today, Flores is 888 miles away, and Bermuda 979. It made a great change to have light winds and clear skies on the 2 – 4.00am watch with a crescent moon and the first hint of dawn light as the watch changed. In fact it’ll son be time to change the ship’s clock, simply one hour per 15 degrees of easting. Breakfast this morning arrived on the hoof in the shape of two large flying fishes in the scuppers – excellent little fillets fried in oil and garlic on home-made bread.

Knot of the day: Truckers hitch  Nautical saying: To Fish (appropriately)
