Position and report. 1 May. Cala Basa, Ibiza
Ione
Wed 1 May 2013 18:42
Now anchored in Cala Basa in Ibiza just a couple of miles outside San Antonio. We left Cartagena yesterday, 30 April, just before noon with a 24 hour weather window with winds broadly in the southerly sector before a return to the NE. However the forecast did also mention showers and storms.
Half an hour after departure the rain came and the wind rapidly built to over 30 knots with gusts above 35. However the direction was right to allow us to broad reach under double reefed main alone until the wind eased. At least the sea state was not too bad.
After that the wind progressively dropped and eventually died, resulting in a lot of motoring. Typical Med weather - either too much wind or too little!
We got to the entrance towards San Antonio just before noon and decided that we did not want to face a large town so anchored in Cala Basa. Several people on the beach as it is the May Day holiday but only three or four other boats at anchor, all of whom have left now, so we are peacefully alone at anchor.
