Passage to the British Virgin Islands!

18:24.3900N / 64:38.1600W

After a successful participation in Heineken Regatta 2011 in St.Maarten, ESCAPADA & Skipper continued their Caribbean journey with a cruise to the British Virgin Islands (BVI). After an early-morning start with cloudy skies at sunrise, a fresh easterly breeze picked up and provided ideal conditions for this 80nm ocean passage, which Captain Flagpole completed single-handedly this time - in just 12 hours! After rounding Necker Island (Richard Branson’s private retreat) ESCAPADA was greeted by a traditional 4-mast schooner for a glorious arrival at Virgin Gorda followed by a well deserved day on the beach at world-famous The Baths!

From there, it was just a short sail across the channel named after British pirate & nobleman Sir Francis Drake to Nanny Cay Yacht Club on Tortola, where hundreds of yachts and sailors from all over the world gathered for this weekend’s “BVI Spring Regatta”.

So, after only a short break, it’s racing again for ESCAPADA!
