BVI Spring Regatta!

18:24.3900N / 64:38.1600W

Hot racing in the warm waters of the British Virgin Islands, that’s what the BVI Spring Regatta is all about, when over 100 yachts from all over the world gather at Nanny Cay Yacht Club. 2011 marked the 40th anniversary edition of this major Caribbean regatta. ESCAPADA, skippered by Captain Flagpole, entered in the Jib&Main division with one of the smallest crews, Lindsay from Australia and Sarah from California.

Over 3 days, there were 5 races on different courses around and between the islands. Racing with such a reduced crew, Captain Flagpole had to use all his multi-tasking skills as skipper, navigator, tactician – and, of course, driving the boat!

Challenging conditions with variable winds and a very dense regatta field, led to a number of adrenaline-provoking encounters, especially at the marks and on the finish line! Eventually, ESCAPADA reached a respectable 9th place in her class of 17 yachts, so it was all smiling faces when Captain & crew enjoyed a few well-deserved drinks at the closing ceremony.

ESCAPADA & Skipper will take a short break now, before exploring more of the Virgin Islands.
