Looking for the Wind…!

18:02.0000N / 63:05.2600W

The second and third day of Heineken Regatta 2011 were characterized by squally skies over the island of St.Maarten and variable winds with repeated intervals of rain. In extremely light airs, very unusual for the Caribbean, many of the racing fleet got stuck in the occasional lull, and a considerable number of competitors did not even manage to finish their race on the last day.

However, TEAM UKRAINE worked hard to handle these unusually challenging conditions and the Crew did an excellent job on constantly balancing weight, trimming the sails and optimizing the course.

ESCAPADA rounding the mark …

Finally, ESCAPADA managed to finish with a remarkable 5th place overall, out of the 16 yachts in its class, i.e. ranking among the top third of its group, ahead of some larger yachts, such as Beneteau 523, Dufour 50, Gib Sea 51, and many others!

The next regatta is only 3 weeks away, so watch this space for more news...!
