The overnight forecast for thunderstorms was correct and in the early hours of this morning we were awoken by flashes of lightening followed by violent crashes of thunder.  This was soon followed by torrential rain which lasted for about 30 minutes.

The forecast for today was gentle winds on the eastern side of northern Corsica (where we were) but force 5 winds on the western side (where we were planning on going).  So, we revised our plans and resigned ourselves to spending an extra night or two in Macinaggio.

However, when we got to the Tourist Information Office they confirmed that it was possible to catch a bus to explore the locality but to go further, it would be better to start from Bastia. Plans were revised (yet again) and we set sail for Bastia.  The following wind was fairly gentle but it was enough to boost our motoring speed by half a knot.  We arrived at the newish small Port Toga, which is north of the big ferry port and further north of the old town port.  Tomorrow morning we are catching a train to Ajaccio to spend a night there and then on to Bonifacio (which is on the southern tip of the island) to spend a night there.  So we will get a flavour of different parts of the island of Corsica.

We will report more fully when we get back.
