We left Selvagem Grande late in the morning in relatively light airs and soon had the Sunburned Mexican flying with the true wind just aft of the beam.  The fishing line went out again and it wasn’t too long before we started to hook some fish.  A couple wriggled free but by the end of the afternoon we had landed three lovely Skipjack Tuna and learned how to turn them into filets, thanks to Cordelia.  We dropped the Mexican, rolled out the jib, reefed the main and settled down to a fish stew with prawns and some of the very fresh tuna.  Delicious!

Overnight, Giles had worked out that Cordelia needed a job to do if she was to have half a chance of staying awake.  She readily took to the helm and quickly adapted her XOD skills to something a bit more powerful.  We had a gentler motion as a result, saved some battery power and Cordelia was still awake at the end of both watches.

By 0900 the sun was up and we arrived at the lighthouse on the SW corner of Lanzarote.  After drifting through a calm patch for an hour we motored into Rubicon Marina, just a couple of miles along the south coast.  Galatea, who had left Selvagem Grande a couple of hours after us, had kept a bit more sail up and missed the calm patch, arriving shortly afterwards.  That evening we celebrated both Muriel’s birthday and Richard & Cordelia’s wedding anniversary, with drinks aboard Galatea and dinner out.

Like many of the marinas around here we think, Rubicon seems to be surrounded by apartments and villas for tourists.  We’d have to venture inland to see anything interesting.  We have a lot of jobs to do after being offline for a few days and more preparation to do before we head home in a week’s time, so we’re staying put for a couple of days.

We’ve really enjoyed Richard and Cordelia’s company but they’re off now to spend a few days in Lanzarote with their daughter.  Very kindly, they’ve loaned us their $5 tuna line and done our washing in their apartment.  Come again!
