Mindelo to Grenada pt.2

13:58.7N 031:58.7W Apologies if this is the first blog you've seen for this leg. User error! Will rectify (Giles). Following from Hugo:
We
pushed through the sargassum into clearer waters. There have been fewer snags of
the line but still no fish activity. We did see a pod of dolphins head off
chasing something, but it was only a short flurry of
action. In
place of fresh fish, we have been tucking into a fruitcake that Leonie sent out
with Michael. It’s been
keeping morale high with full bellies. Absolutely
delicious! Our
practice with the sextant has been getting more and more accurate. People are
regularly getting quite accurate sights. It’s not
always perfect though and we sometimes get a result putting us a very long way
from the mid-Atlantic! One of
the holding tanks has become blocked, so we’re glad
to have two at this point even if it does mean six people sharing one bathroom.
As far
as the sailing goes, we have been cruising along under the asymmetric.
We’ve
earned a spot to the south of the fleet, sailing down to avoid the light winds
to the north. Now we’re able
to head in a more westerly direction on a similar latitude to Grenada. It feels
nice to be sailing on a similar bearing to our destination, chewing through the
miles. The
wind is due to pick up and we’re
hoping to keep the kite flying as long as we can, but we’ll
probably have to go down to white sails at some
point. Adastrina are still nearby and it’s nice
to spend some good time with friends in sight. We’ll just
have to see if we can still keep up when those winds
build. Hugo |
