Las Palmas to Mindelo Pt 2

21:43.27N 019:46.14W Winds pushed up to 30kts and we put the headsail away for
the majority of the last 24hrs. It allowed us to point further downwind so we
didn’t lose too much on our VMG hopefully. As of today, the wind has dropped a
bit and the sun has come out which is a nice change. The headsail is back up and
with it, our boat speed. We almost caught a Mahi Mahi. It was on the line and we
got it pretty close to the boat, but at the last moment it dived hard, then
surfaced quickly again. We were unable to keep enough tension on the line as it
skipped across the surface towards us, so it slipped the hook and made its
escape. As they say though, there’s plenty more fish in the
sea. In other news, we officially made it into the tropics, so looking forward to progressively warmer conditions from here on out. Up until now it has felt like ocean sailing usually does. Generally cold and windy. Maybe we can drop down a layer or two soon. That said, last night was probably the cloudiest and chilliest we’ve had yet. Hugo |
