Well we made it after somewhat of a slog – the wind turned against us and
we had to tack our way for hours on end to make it in. We had the same
(beautiful) view of Madeira all lit up at night (they have an excess of
hydro-electric power so everything is lit up all the time) for hours and hours,
and were all very tired, but we got in at a little after midnight last night.
Current position "32:38.76N
16:54.56W". First thing this am was showers – very welcome indeed
– and laundrette. After that we now plan to chill – well, after cleaning the
boat, re-provisioning, getting spares for one thing and another. Below one
pic of Byron on the approach to Madeira. You can see our first sight of one of
the Madeiran islands last night at dusk – it’s in the centre of the picture,
just above the spray-hood, along the horizon just below the clouds.
We will set off again tomorrow am, probably about 8 am, but subject to
re-doing navigation and checking weather etc. We should be in Las Palmas late
afternoon Friday. |
