After fuel polishing in Baiona we had dinner at Alfredoo’s farm house in the hills above Baiona with terriific local delicacies for hors d’oeuvres followed by a buffet dinner of local pork and stuff. The next day, 6/8, we left Baiona for Islas de Cies and anchored for the night off Playa de San Martin followed next morning by a very overgrown and dodgy walk to an abandoned mill at the end of the island. Lots of eucalyptus trees and brambles. Those in long trousers were happy those in shorts were not. Then off to Ria de Aldan full of mussel farms. Anchored at the head of the ria and dinked ashore for dinner at an old fort/house behind the church. The mussels did not stop coming and were delicious, fat and tasty washed down with lots of Albarino white collapso. Then we sat down for dinner outdoors made up of local dishes. The local digestif involves a large vat full of good stuff which is set on fire and turned with a ladle for an hour at least. The ladle is lifted high and the contents poured back into the vat as a shimmering stream of liquid sapphire. Everyone has a go with the ladle and then at last you get to drink the potion when ripe. Delicious.

7/8 off to Isla de Salvora to which we actually sailed. Having motored since Camaret in France, this was a welcome novelty. This is a national park as are Islas de Cies and we had special permission to anchor and go ashore accompanied by the ranger. We walked to an pld abandoned village and had great views, when it stopped raining.

Presently motoring to Porba where we will marina for the night – it’s raining again.
