Progress - of a sort.

Lewmar came back with a 'fix' for the steering but it didn't so they went away and took the 'fix' with them. Then they 'e mailed to say that the steering was as good as it can be. Hmmm.

Been out sailing. James visited for two weeks and he and I went down to Papagayo. The return trip was slightly marred by having to motor into a force seven. There is a Friday evening round the fish farms sail which is fun but frustrating as the wind usually goes from 25k to zero then back again several times in the course of the evening. When it goes light the locals, in their Bavariae and Jenneaux tear off and Carrick just sort of sits there but when it pipes up we catch them up. Then it goes light again.....

Have abandoned hopes of the Med and will stay in Canaries til the ARC. Winds have been blasting down from the NE and have been unusually strong, acc. to the locals, this year. Also lots of Kalima which brings sand from the Sahara so we're in a semi permanent sand haze. The sand gets everywhere. I am very much looking forward to the Atlantic squalls with accompanying downpours to get the bits the hose can't reach, free of the blasted stuff.

Not much gone wrong recently - touch wood - except the companionway hatch jams open in the heat and the Selden furlers wont dismantle as they should to be able to grease them.
