Dear Reader(s)

Well, it’s a funny old world, as that nice Mrs. Thatcher so presciently said. It turns out that, after seven months of sodding around since the winch ‘’event’’ in Las Palmas, that the malfunction is attributable to its having been incorrectly connected, ab initio!!! To say that I am surprised would probably be something of an understatement. The ‘’fix’’ was changing over two wires which took all of five minutes. Bit of a shame that all involved could not have done a pretty elementary bench test ere now.

The new Lewmar pedestal/steering is still producing an unacceptable clicking noise and we are still talking to Lewmar who are being most helpful.

I am assisted in all these endeavours by Jan, the local whizz. A man of resource, ingenuity, knowledge and an inexhaustible fund of hair raising and very funny stories.

As he never tires of telling me, only a complete idiot buys a NEW boat. The Smart Money lets the first mug exhaust himself on the unchartered reefs of ego and snagging and then, when said mug is suitably disenchanted/exhausted/broke(en), said SM picks up el boaty for 50 cents on the $. A trifle exaggerated perhaps but not entirely adjacent to the truth.

So, we soldier on sustained by Spanish gin and cheap wine to face another day, one of which , no doubt in the far distant future, may even involve sailing – Oh Happy Day!!
