All is well on the Bobbejaan. Jessa is
still green everyday but it seems she is getting better. (I hope) Sailing in the
tradewinds is great as the wind is constant and it feels that you are getting
somewhere. We had the spinnaker up this morning but the wind is just not enough.
The ride is a bit rough but we are making up for all the motoring we have
done.
There are still a lot of big tankers and
container ships taking the same route as us or we are taking the same route
as them? Yesterday one passed within half a mile of us!
On the fishing front things are looking
up. Yesterday I caught two Bonitos and a small pampano. We had some apricot
Bonito steaks last night. A bit dry for my liking and I still think South
African "snoek" is better. We also by accident caught two squid and a
flying fish. They decided that a ride on the Bob is safer than swimming with the
predators. They were all dried out by the time we got to them.
We had a few dolphins visiting the boat
for the last couple of nights. They look like angels flying around the boat with
all the illuminescence. The night sky is really unbelievable! I have never
seen so many stars in my life! We also get three or four shooting stars per
night. Living in a city makes you forget the beauty of nature.
This is our tenth day at sea and we have
sailed over 800 miles. We have done 132nm yesterday and 128nm the day
before. Can't get better than this! I also realised that we need a lot more
work done on the boat to make her perfect for cruising. We will do this when we
get to Malaysia. New fridge, New steering seat, more rope, new tiolets etc. The
list goes on.
Personal time has been great. I am on my
third book which I should be able to finish today. When working you just don't
get the time for these things. My goal now is to read 50/60 books per year. Just
imagine the knowledge you acquire per year?!
