650 miles to go!
Frustrating/challenging situation at present with very little wind sometimes enough for a few hours sailing then it's back on the motor time, with constant calculation checking the fuel consumption rate versus distance to go and what's in the tank not forgetting of course the need to run the generator from time to time which takes some more fuel, but we do look to have enough with a reasonable safety margin. Apparently where we are going the usual way to refuel is to reverse up to the dock where the petrol/diesel station is, throw out your anchor to stay 20m off this commercial and yacht unfriendly dock. The pump attendant takes a throwing line from you which is attached to a bigger line from the top of your mast, they attach a 4 inch fuel hose to your bigger line and you pull it back to the yacht to decant the fuel!!!!!!
This passage has been alot more challenging than any of us expected just through the constantly changing weather and sea conditions, crossing the Atlantic was much easier! It is also extremely hot at present with temperatures regularly in the high 30's and of course running the engine makes the boat warmer inside. We are all avidly studying the pilot books and tourist guides for The Marquesas and they definitely look like they are worth the effort to get there.
