Day 3

After a very good first 20 hours with wind and sea state co-operating, whilst the sea has stayed benign (a pleasant surprise as usually in the Atlantic we have large swells all the time)the wind has weakened more and more and so we have had to bring the engine into play, running it with sails up, Which although not that quick maximises our forward momentum while being economic on diesel. We are simplistically heading for Mindelo in the Cape Verdes as we can get more fuel here should we feel the need and it is also still the right direction for eventually turning right for St Lucia. There is an old nautical saying (before fridges were invented!!) "head south until the butter melts to find the wind" and we and most of the fleet are doing so. The racing division do not use their engines so they are continuously crossing backwards and forwards to get to the same southerly point to turn for St Lucia.

All well on board, gelling into a really good team
