Today we have been on this big blue ocean for four weeks things are
starting to get a little smelly! we have no clean clothes to wear (didnt
bring much anyway) alas we are naked its good for our skin and also when waves
hit we dry quick. Its like a nudist camp on this boat (of course we
wouldn’t know what that is like but can imagine). We carry around a
sheepskin only (to sit on our own personal one) and are sporting our harness and
lifejackets of course at all times so not completely nude. We have not
washed our hair now for four weeks since leaving land. personal hygiene
consists of a wash down with baby wipes and application of surgical spirit to
our behinds and hands after each shift and thats it. We saw a whale
yesterday and today a very large pod of dolphins followed us for sometime.
The flying fish are still attacking we found a dead one hidden in the boat it
had been there for some time and i had been blaming the smell on Helens
shoes. We are still steering manually and battery power is still an issue
but we are managing. Niki has an infected nailbed in her fingure so she is
on antibiotics and I had to lance it for her today it was a case of hiding the
lancet and telling her to look away!! she is very brave it must have been
hurting really bad, she also has a pressure sore, poor Niki what with falling
down and brusing her coccyx and the flying fish. Pigeon post arrives on a
sunday with an extra delivery during the week (mail I collected form family and
friends before leaving) its nice to receive this and helps put a smile on all
our faces. There is no doubt this is the toughest challenge any of us have
ever done, whilst we are enjoying the journey and there are some amazing sights
and very funny moments we are also looking forward to arriving in Antigua and
being reunited wiht our families who we love and miss every day. A specail
mention to Ben my husband who is watching the weather for us and thankfully
managed to steer us clear of the eye of the big storm having advance notice of
the weather really helps us your marvellous darling, thank you from us all
X. Im on shift now so until next time skipper Janette signing off, one of
these days one of the crew will get to doing a blog rather than having a
snooze!!!!!!!!!!!! xxxxx |
