Up around 6.15am to set off for Bequia some 50
miles or so South. We had a great sail across to St Vincent. Wind easterly F5
and quite big seas. Once we were in the lee of St Vincent the waves calmed down
and we enjoyed the sailing most of the way down until we hit a no-wind patch for
half an hour or so at the Southern end. As soon as we poked our nose out to go
South to Bequia we were back to a roller coaster sail - great fun. As we
approached Bequia, we had our photo taken by a local photographer who comes out
in a dinghy. We subsequently bought it when he came round to our anchorage as it
was one of the best action shots of us sailing- a nice one for the
album.
We anchored in Admiralty Bay without any problems
and went ashore to sort the Customs and Immigration formalities (much better
organised here!), had a beer in the Salty Dog to cool off (the weather had
been baking hot and we are missing having a bimini). In the evening we had a bit
of a blow out at L'Auberge (VERY nice) before dinghying across to the Frangipani
for the Thursday night 'jump up'! The captain entered in to the spirit of
things a little too well with the banana daqhiris and we had an interesting
dinghy ride back to Ula. He had an interesting headache the following
morning!
Yesterday we did the town, Port Elizabeth - it is
quite well heeled by Caribbean standards, probably due to a large number of
American tourists- and very friendly. Later an open taxi ride round the island
and a visit to the turtle sanctuary. Hopefully scuba diving later today. We
really like it here. Met up with Luna today - this boat was moored alongside us
in Las Palmas before the start of the ARC - they are out here until
April/May.
Forgot to mention the Hummingbird Bar/restaurant in
Soufriere blog - well worth a visit.
Plan to move on to Union Island tomorrow so
internet connections etc permitting will post another blog shortly. Need to
close now to hit the shops (Doris's Food Shop closes soon!)
Love to everyone at home, Jackie and
John
