We had a great sail around to Loctudy yesterday. Given the forecasts we have had, the trip at least got us through the Raz de Sein and we are now well placed to get across Biscay once the forecast improves. Hopefully we shall be setting off tomorrow heading for La Coruna or Baiona

The Raz was quite calm and we came through with at least twelve other boats all heading in the same direction, including a French navy boat and a pleasure boat. Having motor sailed down from Camaret through the Raz, once through we sailed nearly all the way. We decided to come in to Loctudy rather than the better known Benodet situated about three miles away as we have been here before some years ago and really liked it. Everyone is very friendly, it is much less touristy and berthing is not such a Russian roulette in the tides. We were here in 2000 with Tim and Helen and had a very lazy lunchtime/afternoon eating a lunch of langoustines from the local fish market and far too much Muscadet I seem to remember! Happy days!

We have had a day sorting out the boat, exploring and provisioning up for the next few days at sea as well as trying to help Andy who has stayed at home for some uni resits, sort temporary accommodation etc. What did we do before the internet?!  The local supermarket was very small but the marina have bikes available so I had one of these and headed off in the direction of 'Champion' some 1-2 km out of town. This was great until I needed to stop and realised the brakes didnt work! Fortunately the beer weighing down the basket on the handlebars helped on the way back!

We have had dinner with the crew of Libertad for the last two evenings who are here in Loctudy with us. Last night we went to the marina restaurant which we subsequently discovered in Le Routard - very nice food, and tonight we have cooked on board Ula which has been fun.Laura, Jake and Tim have been out fishing  but have yet to catch anything other than a mackerel!

Hopefully our next blog will be from Spain in about three days time.
