Lanzarote is the most remarkable island and we
are having the most fantastic time playing tourists. Marina Rubicon is one of
the nicest purpose built marinas that we have visited with excellent facilities,
bars and restaurants. As usual food has featured highly on the
agenda. So much so that Andy even learned how to use the cooker on the boat. We
hired a car, Helen requested a Saab convertible but settled for the
back seat of a Golf.
We have been seeking out local fish restaurants and
sampling such delicacies as squid, octopus and garlic prawns. We have had
wonderful fish, baked whole and served with Canarian potatoes and the red
and green Moho sauces. Lanzarote is a mountainous volcanic island and the most
recent eruption took place in the early 19th century. We visited
the Volcano which is
in a national park. The only way of visiting the centre of the park is by a
guided coach tour which we did on Friday.
Now that the wind has abated the weather is perfect, warm and sunny.
We have been to the surfing beach where Jackie gave a virtuoso demonstration of
body boarding; very impressive, whilst Helen admired the surfing
instructor.
The boat is being lifted on Monday so it can have its bottom checked and
then we are moving on to Fuerteventura on Tuesday
