A moment from one of the crew

When I first said I would undertake this trip I was told by many that I was mad, why would I want to spend 3 weeks plus on a boat bouncing across the Atlantic Ocean, feeling seasick “You wouldn’t catch me out there!”

Maybe they were right, when I started feeling queezy second day out, when you are caught in a squall and the wind blows 40 knots with a gust to 50, no visibility and more rain than you can imagine, and the reality sets in that you are in a vast sea days from any land.

But the seasickness has passed, the squalls move quickly on, and faith in the team and the boat make the ocean seem not so vast. Then you realise why you are here; to watch the dolphins play in the wake of the yacht and see the flying fish glide above the waves, you watch the most amazing light show as flashes of lightning streak across the skies, and finally the moon was high in the sky last night as we skimmed across the sea with the spinnaker flying lit by the stars and the moon light.

These are the moments that make it worthwhile, moments that can’t be captured by camera or video, moments that go into the memory banks for the years to come.
