Rubicon
Wed 13 May 2015 11:38
As promised I have set up a blog for family and friends and to document our year sabbatical.
It all started in London, when we picked up Rubicon at St. Katharine Docks in London England. We arrived the night before and stayed at the Grange St Paul's. The next morning I visited Saint Paul's Cathedral. It was spectacular. It is the most beautiful church I have ever entered. I climbed all the way up to the top, and suffered from feelings of a of fear of heights on the metal stairs winging up on the outside of the inner dome. If any of you have been there, you will know what I mean. But was all worth it. BTW Sir Alexander Fleming, who discovered penicillin, was buried there.

We made our way to Rubicon at about noon, and we were met by John Eustace and Sarah Assael from Discovery Yachts. Rubicon had been delivered to London from Southampton the week before to place her in a boat show. We loaded up on provisions at the local Waitrose. In the evening we had a few G&T's and walked over the Tower Bridge for dinner at a trendy Argentinean restaurant. At 6 am the next day we set off through the locks onto the Thames River and headed east, past Greenwich towards the Thames Estuary. After a day long sail, we ended up in Dover, and docked for the night in the excellent Marina. Vlad had the best Fish and Chips he had yet had in England at the restaurant right on the beach.
