We had a relaxing 5 days or so in Cartagena, and stayed at the YPC Marina. There are several worthwhile archeological sites including a roman theatre, baths, marketplace and an amphitheatre is currently under renovations. It was a challenge to take the kids to these tourist attractions, as they always seemed to get “ants in their pants”.

During our time there, it was “festival week” so we were able to see how the city comes alive with the re-enactment of the epic battle that took place here between the Carthaginians and the Romans. Every night there was an event, usually requiring hundreds of people to be dressed up in Roman costumes. People of all ages and sizes were walking around in togas and other outfits that were straight out of the history books. Some were in the purple cloths of the nobles, some in war gear with banners, some in peasant gear. The place was buzzing with life. Every evening there were fireworks displays, and most of the time we had front row seats, when sitting in our cockpit. The kids loved it! But it was time to head to Gibraltar, and the weather looked promising. off we go again.
