We got up at 07.00 this morning to make an early start – only to be thwarted by the anchor being snarled again!  This time an old mooring ball attached to the sea bed by a large lump of concrete had wrapped around our chain. Another difficult extrication with Nick getting bounced around in the dinghy by large choppy waves. Fortunately it only took 2 hours to free ourselves this time and we made it out of Biscayne Bay by 10.00.

We headed north 30 miles passed Miami Beach, one of Ellas favourite days whilst they were here in December. We arrived at Fort Lauderdale and were greeted by about 8 huge cruise ships – not sure what the collective noun might be....

We found the only free anchorage in Fort Lauderdale called Lake Sylvia and described by other boaters as a hidden gem. It was very nice, surrounded by swanky homes with their boats moored on their waterfronts. It was also overlooked by Pier 66 – the hotel we stayed in last time we were here 29 years ago. Then we looked down on the boats, this time looking up from one.
