Anchored overnight in St Pierre. It used to be the capital of Martinique and was known as the Paris of the Caribbean until the volcano erupted in 1902 destroying everything and killing all but 2 of the 30,000 inhabitants.  Many of the old walls have been incorporated into the rebuild but the capital moved to Fort de France. We left in a hurry as both our boats dragged anchors and were blown out to sea in very sudden gale force winds of 40 knots plus!. Luckily there was someone on board but we had to go back and fetch those who had watched us disappear into the horizon from the shore!
