Tobago Cays
6 April 2009 12:37.51N 61:24.41W A short hop over to Tobago Cays entering by the southern
channel before noon with a very clear view of what was sand, coral or deep water.
Once in the main anchorage the water clarity allowed us to anchor in sand and
avoid any coral in only 2.3 metres of water. Before we had sorted ourselves out
there were cries of turtle, rays, fish and everyone wanted to get into the
water apart from Marina who was no doubt on serious shark lookout. We had a
wonderful time going off in the dinghy and snorkelling, with an abundance of
fish; Deborah and Doug managed to follow behind a pair of turtles for some
distance. Unfortunately the coral has been damaged by hurricanes so it’s
more the fish that are of interest. It’s still a stunning place to visit.
After dark, an American voice on the VHF announced that the International Space
Station was overhead, going from west to east, and sure enough, it was very
bright amongst a beautiful canopy of stars. 5 miles |
