But since this morning we are having a steady tread wind at 14-15 kts on a beam reach sailing around 7 kts. We wanted to taste some Mahi Mahi so we seriously set a new lure in the water. About an hour later the typical zeeezzz sound signed a fish. Unfortunately it lasted only 5 seconds and then the line when slack. Upon retrial we discovered that the lure was gone and the 80 lb line broken. Disappointed, we set again a similar lure in the water. Another hour later again zeeeezzzzeee. Stronger that before. We furled in the jib. The line was still zeeeeeee. I increased the friction and it finally stopped. The rod was seriously bend and afraid I had tied the friction too much I release it a bit (this was the mistake it cost us the fish) All suddenly zeeeee again and then the rod when slack. Almost near all line was in the water. We started retrieving line and soon realized the fish was gone. But at least this time the lure was still there. So it's back in the water for one more try. ![]() Jon with the mandatory Blue Note reading |
