The following data are from the latest grib file dated 06:00 UTC Perhaps Friday is a better day, with the only draw back of some W or SW wind in the strait. On Friday HW in Tarifa is at 4:40am. This is the Metarea forecast for the strait issued at 06:00 UTC GIBRALTAR STRAIT: W OR SW 3 TO 5. SMOOTH OR SLGT. RAIN AND THUNDERY SHWRS. MOD OR GOOD.Wind is Beafurt scale, so force 3 is 8-12 kts and force 5 19-24 kts If is turns to be force 5, I would say too much wind for the strait, but since the departure time would be early in the morning, I would expect the wind to be on the lower side of the range 3-5. After Tarifa one would follow the Spanish coast on a West-North-West course, until early on Sunday the winds will start to veer to be more from the West. Jeff wisely decided to wait the next forecast to make a final decision Friday vs. Saturday, but as he pointed out with either departure day there will be some days of unfavorable winds. Friday 12:00 UTC, Friday 18:00 UTC, winds already getting lighter. Saturday 06:00 UTC Light head wind in the morning. Sunday 00:00 UTC winds start to veer form the West Simulated route with departure on Friday. Estimated time 4d 21h after Tarifa Max wind seen is 17 kts on Oct 12 |
