A new record

Tripled
Mon 23 May 2011 09:10
It is currently 0710 Triple D time (1010 British time) and our position is 37:25.9N 44:03.1W. We have strong southerly winds at a constant 19 knots, and our speed is currently 8 knots. We are 725 miles from the Azores!!!

Well we have had constant strong winds for 24 hours now, varying between 90
degrees and 120 degrees to the boat, from about 15-19 knots. As a result we
have gone extremely quickly and are all set for a new Triple D daily record
of over 170 miles covered, when we check our daily mileage at 1130!!! We've
gone at least 7 knots, more often more, for 24 hours and it looks set to
continue today. The forecast as I checked it yesterday was for similar winds
today, lessening tomorrow. Our speed is good, not just because it is sending
us quickly towards our destination, but also because there is a low moving
in behind us with headwinds of up to 30 knots. Gerry, are you going to be
alright for this?

So the winds have been great for sailing, less good for living. We are back
to that uncomfortable state where doing anything is incredibly difficult! So
our halfway celebration meal last night was not roast pork, but instead M&S
chunky chicken with boiled potatoes. Much more easy to make!!!
No sealife yesterday, but then we were all sitting comfortably in the cabin
for most of the day, only occasionally popping our heads up to check for
boats. I suppose we could have had visits from hundreds of dolphins, whales,
you name it!

Safe sailing to everyone else out on the water - and for all of you back
home, we are getting rapidly closer!!!!!
