We are throughly enjoying Grenada we had a wonderful couple of days in Cariacou visiting Sandy Island , where we had good snorkelling, also visited Hillsbrough a dear place very old Carabbien. Sandy Island proved a wonderful place for Yoga under the newly established Palm trees. However not a place we felt happy to spend the night so we returned to Tyrell bay for the night before setting off to pick up Jennie from St George’s Grenada. We had our first night in a marina since leaving the Canaries . We had cold showers and mistakenly thought it would be a good idea to fill up with water . This proved an expensive mistake . But now with the new batteries that Jenny brought out we are able to check and be sure of the freshness of our water maker water (from seawater) we are happily back making and drinking that.
We had a bit of a tourist day in St George’s vivited the catholic cathedral where they were busy decking it out in anticipation of the Independence Day celebrations on 7 th February 1974
The visit to St George’s Fort was a real wake up call when we realised that it was only in 1983 that Maurice Bishop and his close advisors were shot against the wall in the court yard right there and so much in modern history . It’s now a rather dilapidated military training school all rather down at heel. Still with deserted desks with American flags on them . A quick visit to the market refreshed our fruit and veg , not a very exciting selection but a help.
From St George’s we went around to Prickly Bay and Budget Marine (slight misnomer). We were horrified at the number of yachts there but we were able to pick up a bouy on the periphery and dinked into the shop.
We had a lovely welcome in Port Egmont where Stephen and Rosie Maltby have a house . Gorgeous spot pretty empty anchorage and really good shelter , we had a fabulous evening and showers with them . This is where we say good bye to our wonderful crew and sailing companion Becky . She is joining Stephen for Grenada race week before returning home .
Now once again at sea in our way back to Cariacou and places north . We are currently beating to windward in a F5, sunshine and white horses.
