Bernie's Blog – 24 May

Day 4 and overnight and today very pleasant sailing – a stiff breeze from the right direction over a calm sea and under a clear sky. Long may it last. We are currently moving in the general direction of the Azores at 120 miles a day although we know that this good progress is unlikely to last. We have taken on additional diesel for the time when we hit zero winds, which we surely will.

Yesterday we moved our clock forward to GMT–3 which now makes the time difference 4 hours behind the UK (and 4 after Vancouver).

Last evening’s meal of Chilli con Carne  & rice was cooked by Bernie, ably advised by Peter (P1) and Rod. So many things went into it that it would be difficult to repeat. Onboard we have lots of ‘additives to taste’!

Typical snack lunches have been soup, sandwiches, tortilla and Greek salad & peta bread followed by fresh apples and oranges. We always have afternoon tea with a piece of cake; currently Di’s date & walnut but soon to be Peter’s (P2) Sue’s fruitcake. We live well..

Still no wildlife to report and no fish caught. We see about one merchant ship a day. We are truly in our own little world and we have no idea what is happening in the wider world and have no wish to. That is part of the enjoyment of ocean passages – the isolation. However, we would like to know the Spanish F1 result last Sunday and the Man Utd vs Barcelona result on 29th.!!

As I write this I see that Colin is doing some housework in the galley area; Peter (P2) is about to repair rope holders, and Rod is on watch telling yet more tall stories to the skipper (P1).

More from our little world tomorrow.
