Day 11 - We are halfway

At about 5 o'clock this morning we were all elated by crossing the "Halfway Across the Atlantic" line. Unsurprisingly this was noted by our SatNav rather than a white line across the ocean with an icecream and souvenir shop. Before we reached this milestone our peaceful night of mountainous seas and force 6 winds was rudely interrupted by a wind shift requiring us to gybe. By the time our crack crew swung into action, the forsail had swung itself around the forstay several times, making a sort of tangled mess only seen in a book of knots. Fortunately, this was all resolved with a lot of swearing, shouting and pulling any pieces of rope that came to hand. Having then crept back to bed our night was further interrupted by a small squall and torrential downpour requring more "crew action". Come daylight we were pleased to see that the decks are now sparkling clean, so at least there's one less job to do today. Our wildlife survey of the Atlantic took a turn up yesterday when we were joined by a pod of porpoises off the starboard bow. At least a dozen "Flippers" overcame the incessant whine from our prop shaft to entice the crew above decks for 10 minutes. Needless to say as soon as any camera lens was produced they swam off, although Oscar assures me that he has video footage of one doing a backflip and eating out of his hand - tho' I doubt we'll ever see it. We are still on the look out for whales but hopefully will not literally "run-into-one" as another ARC boat did yesterday, sustaining light damage. Meanwhile life on the ocean wave continues, fuelled by tinned food accompanied by the last of the cabbage and washed down with water. So now it's St Lucia here we come for Sawsea Lady..
