OVER HALF WAY TO GRAN CANARIA

We have come 450 miles in the open Atlantic from Sines in Portugal. Some 230 miles to Gran Canaria and 150 miles off the Moroccan coast.
We had a North West wind all last night and today so are able to sail on a reach.
No signs of  sea life today.  A very occasional bird. We saw our first, and only, flying fish two days ago .
The other night, when Donald was on watch, we crossed the shipping lane heading for the Straits of Gibraltar. We could see the lights of 12 ships in sight crossing us or coming up astern to swing into the separation zone. We had to take significant avoiding action when two container ships came close from astern.
