THE ATLANTIC RALLY for CRUISERS (ARC)
 
We are sailing on a Bavaria 39 - SAWSEA LADY
 
 
This is a new boat bought by David Moore. David plans to make it available for charter in the British Virgin Islands. The boat was delivered by the builders in mid October at La Rochelle.
 
The race, for 225 yachts, starts from Las Palmas in Gran Canaria on 26th November.
2,700miles later, across the Atlantic, it finishes officially in Rodney Bay, St Lucia, West Indies on 22nd December 2006.

Richard Fielding, Oscar Nowak, David Moore, Donald McSwein, Philippa Moore, Bob Kerr
 
 
David Moore.         Skipper, member of Sussex Yacht Club .RYA Oceanmaster and Yachtmaster instructor.  Raced a Finn dinghy in the Finn Gold Cup in 1971/72, Finn European 1972, Olympic Trials 72/74.  Started offshore racing in 1960s, skippered the Royal Marines yacht in 1973 Fastnet.  Owns and races a David Thomas 20ft racing yacht DIANA at Shoreham. Served in the Royal Marines Band for 26 years, Music Master in Lancing College for 20 years.
 
Bob Kerr.              Member of Sussex Yacht Club. RYA Oceanmaster. Sailed for 30 years.
Crewed in Junior Offshore Group (JOG). Completed the ARC in 2003 in his first SEREFE, a 32ft Beneteau.  The boat was featured in a 45min Channel 4 documentary "Going to Extremes". Lives in Somerset but races weekly at Shoreham in his 41ft Hanse SEREFE which he owns with Glo Carpenter.
 
Donald McSwein.   Member of Sussex Yacht Club. Sailed for 40 years.
Passage racing in Scotland with Clyde Cruising Club. Scottish Catamaran Champion.
Owned various boats including a 3 man keelboat and an 18ft centreboard cruiser.
Currently racing a Wanderer dinghy at Shoreham as well as keelboat crewing.
 
Philippa Moore.     Sailed offshore for 18 years with her father David. After leaving Lancing College she taught at an orphanage in India then graduated BA 11 years ago at Durham. Account Director.
 
Oscar Nowak.     RYA Day Skipper. Started sailing 4 years ago. After Lancing College and University started teaching English at Slindon College, Sussex. Currently races a Laser 2.
 
Richard Fielding.  Started sailing at Lancing College. Sails offshore around the Channel. Medical consultant with a renal PhD. Lives in London.

The crew sailing the 1500 miles from La Rochelle to the Canaries are :-
David, Donald, Oscar who will be joined by Mike Brooke.
 
Mike Brooke. Mike met David at the Commando Training School in 1970. He retired recently as a Colonel having transfered to the Royal Engineers from the Royal Marines. Sailed dinghies and yachts for 40 years. Crewed for Jack Knights in Tempests and for Rodney Patterson in Flying Dutchmen. As an RYA Oceanmaster he did the ARC last year and stood by a sinking yacht until the crew were rescued by a container ship. Owns a 42ft Sweden yacht, "Never Look Back".
 
This coming week we will be provisioning the new yacht and adding the necessary ocean sailing gear,
Dan bouys , etc.
 
We hope to set off on 22nd October
