Happy Friday!
We are currently at 09:26.665S 137:12.994W and we have
108 miles to go! We are sailing with jib only currently and have slowed on
purpose to make a daylight landfall in the morning.
We are excited to be close, we have friends who are
there and they have been told they must remain where they are due to the virus
and cannot island "hop" for the time being but so far they are not turning boats
away.
Today has been our most stressful day of the whole trip
though, we have had sail problems since 2:30 am this morning when had equipment
malfunction on the code zero and then we decided to raise the main this morning
and the halyard twisted. Which in turn makes it almost impossible to
lower the main and of course when we cannot lower the main we have a squall come
up and throw at us over 30 knots of wind and 3 meter breaking swells and
waves.
But that is all past us now, the squall passed and we
were able to get the main down and stowed, so we are jib only and will continue
to monitor the weather.
