Wednesday 27th August.  After leaving Fertilia we headed for the bay of Porto Conte, about 7 nM away, where there are a number of places to anchor, depending on wind direction, swell etc. We picked one, which was near, but not too close to a hotel complex and well sheltered from the brisk North West wind that was due to continue for at least a couple of days. On the first night, Saturday, we went to sleep quite easily but were aroused by some loud disco music, or more particularly, the drum beats on someone’s super sized base players, which continued to five in the morning. We weren’t planning an early departure anywhere and the anchorage was sound for the wind, so we got on with the business of enjoying our stay and swimming in the clear water. Fortunately, our perseverance payed off as there were no repeats of the late night disco and we slept soundly thereafter. We stayed for four nights in total.
A slight drawback was the lack of suitable landing points for our dinghy. We were shoed off one deserted beach on the basis that it was “Military’, even though the signs seemed to refer to a pontoon on which a couple of fast ribs were attached. Other places had inconvenient sharp stones at the water’s edge that were not dinghy-friendly. We eventually found a stretch of beach that was not part of the hotel complex and walked into the village from there.

View from our anchorage in Porto Conte - later the sea became mirror calm when the wind dropped.
